We offer a holistic and rounded education that supports students with more complex needs to develop their social, emotional and functional life skills.
Students are generally based in one classroom with the same teacher and teaching assistants unless they are attending specialist lessons such as swimming or performing arts.
Students study a range of different life and living skills qualifications at Entry Level 1 and Entry Level 2. Lessons are inclusive and all students are supported to fulfil their potential through differentiated and varied activities that are relevant for college but also at home or in the community. Communication is a very important part of our day and underpins all the work that we do.
Communication strategies such as Makaton, symbol strips, PECS, communication books and communication devices are used to help the students engage and fully take part in lessons. The lessons are fun and engaging and aim to embed transferable core life skills.
We have an open door policy and parents are always welcome to join us in our lessons. Home / College communication is very important and we use a number of different strategies including diaries and email correspondence. Each week we send home a form newspaper that tells you about what we have been doing in class, and the students take an active part in collating and writing this.
As well as building links between college and home, we aim to build parental links so that college friendships can carry on at weekends and in the holidays if possible. It is also a good opportunity for parents to get to know, and spend time with each other.
